The Handbag Project
The Handbag Project
For Women’s Day this year, on the advice of the Jes Foord Foundation, we are collecting handbags to donate to Rape Crisis in Cape Town. The handbags are filled with personal comfort items and given to rape survivors during the initial reporting process at police stations.
We feel very strongly about the issue of rape and would appreciate any donations of UNUSED OR GOOD, SECOND-HAND HANDBAGS that we can donate towards the project, from our Simon’s Town Museum family. Please ask others that you know, to assist if they are able.
We are also appealing for the following items, as suggested by Rape Crisis:
· Underwear (from child to adult sizes, male and female)
· Soap / body wash Facecloth Toothbrush
· Small non-perishable snack
· Underwear (from child to adult sizes, male and female Sanitary towels
The following items are optional extras:
· Deodorant Shampoo
· Small notebook and pen
· Small toy for children Hairbands/comb/hairbrush
· A note – words of comfort/care.
