The Snoekie Market

Future

The Simon’s Town Museum Phoenix Committee would like to invite you to ‘The Snoekie Market’ at the Simon’s Town Museum. In collaboration with local organisations and assistance from the Simon’s Town Business Association and the Simon’s Town Civic Association, the market aims to celebrate our shared heritage by bringing together the communities of the far south. Join us for a taste of your local history!

The Market will consist of food, craft, music, and a raffle to raise funds for the Museum. Each ticket costs R20.00 and will be available on the day of the event.  There will also be a special performance titled ‘Future for the Past’ by the Dutch cultural arts collective, ‘Sites of Memory.’

Sites of Memory presents Future for the Past; A journey back in time to the connected colonial past between The Netherlands and South Africa. Artists from both countries translated their vision to this history in music, poetry, dance, visual art and theater. With this site specific performance, Sites of Memory shares insight into how the colonial past plays a role in our present and to re-imagine the future. Future for the Past will be presented in Cape Town from 3 to 5 December 2021, with a special teaser performance at the Simon’s Town Museum on the 27th November,  as part of restless exuberance featuring a public art symposium alongside live performances by Institute for CreativeArts.
